Directions:
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Core the apples, leaving the bottom intact.
Slice vertical cuts around each apple, stopping about ½ inch from the bottom so they stay together.
Mix melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Spoon over the apples, getting the mixture into the cuts.
Place apples in a baking dish with a few tablespoons of water in the bottom.
Bake for 35–45 minutes, until tender and beautifully “bloomed.”
Serve warm with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce.
