Glow-in-the-Dark Candy Popcorn Bombs
Ingredients
- 10 cups popped popcorn
(plain or lightly salted; remove unpopped kernels) - 1 cup mini marshmallows
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- ½ cup light corn syrup
- 1 cup white chocolate, melted
- 1 cup neon candy melts (green, blue, or pink), melted
- 1–2 tbsp edible neon luster dust or glow food powder (must be food-safe and edible)
- Sprinkles, candy eyes, or crushed candies for decorating
- Pinch of salt
Optional tools
- Large mixing bowl
- Small saucepan
- Baking sheet or tray lined with parchment paper
- Disposable gloves or lightly greased hands
- Ice cream scoop or measuring cup for shaping
Instructions
1) Prep the popcorn
Pop your popcorn and place it in a very large mixing bowl.
Pick out any unpopped kernels so nobody bites into one later.
2) Make the marshmallow coating
In a saucepan over low heat, melt together:
- ½ cup butter
- 1 cup mini marshmallows
- ½ cup light corn syrup
- pinch of salt
Stir constantly until smooth and fully melted, about 3–5 minutes.
Do not let it boil hard — you just want everything melted and glossy.
3) Coat the popcorn
Pour the warm marshmallow mixture over the popcorn.
Use a spatula or greased spoon to toss gently until the popcorn is evenly coated.
Let it cool just enough to handle safely — about 2–3 minutes.
4) Shape the popcorn bombs
Lightly grease your hands (or wear lightly greased gloves).
Scoop portions of the coated popcorn and press them into firm round balls about the size of a baseball or orange.
Place them on the parchment-lined tray.
Let them set for 10–15 minutes so they hold their shape.
5) Melt the candy coating
Melt the white chocolate and neon candy melts separately in microwave-safe bowls:
- Heat in 20–30 second bursts
- Stir between each burst
- Stop once smooth
If the candy melts are too thick, stir in ½–1 tsp neutral oil or coconut oil.
6) Add the glow effect
Mix edible neon luster dust / glow food powder into the melted white chocolate or candy melts.
Start with 1 tablespoon, then add more if you want a brighter effect.
Important note:
These won’t literally glow like a light stick unless you’re using a food-safe blacklight-reactive edible powder.
Most “glow” versions are really neon / UV-reactive under blacklight, not self-glowing in the dark.
7) Decorate the popcorn bombs
Drizzle or dip each popcorn bomb with the melted chocolate/candy melts.
Then immediately add:
- sprinkles
- candy eyes
- crushed candies
- extra dust for a brighter neon finish
You can do spooky Halloween styles, monster faces, or bright galaxy-style drizzles.
8) Let them set
Leave them at room temperature until the coating firms up, about 20–30 minutes.
If you’re in a warm kitchen, chill them in the fridge for 10–15 minutes.
