Instructions
- Activate the yeast
In a bowl, mix the warm milk with the yeast and 1 tablespoon of the sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Mix the dough
In a large bowl, combine the flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Add the eggs, butter, and yeast mixture.
- Knead
Knead for about 10–15 minutes until the dough becomes smooth, soft, and elastic. If sticky, add a little flour gradually.
- First rise
Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Shape the donuts
Roll out the dough to about 1 cm thickness. Cut into donut shapes using a donut cutter or two round cutters.
- Second rise
Place shaped donuts on a floured tray, cover lightly, and let rise again for 30–45 minutes until puffy.
- Fry
Heat oil to medium heat (about 170–180°C / 340–350°F). Fry donuts for 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Coat
Drain on paper towels, then roll in sugar while still warm.
